SUPERMAN

(...) In the Super Man series, the artist shows male bodies indulging in various exercises (body building), struggling with each other (fighting or sex) and actually transforming themselves entirely into muscles swollen with exertion. The mood of struggle is further enhanced by the stylistic and colouristic atmosphere of these paintings uniformly coloured backgrounds show dark contours of bodies, filled in with intense colours: dark red, pink, yellow, poison green with violet, Prussian blue. A drawing version of similar motifs is presented in the Man series, in which successive works look like notes from a bodybuilding show with a display of back musculature. Here, it is not the dynamics that matter, in these ascetic forms drawn with a soft, confident line, it is the statics, the pose of the body that is important to demonstrate the strength, the tension that is the climax.
