2019 "Kiss"

In this series, each painting is built from a single color, a saturated yellow or a deep blue, and one black line. Nothing more is needed.

The drawing carries the weight of the Romantic tradition, its emotion and its sense of the sublime. The restraint comes from Japanese ink painting, where one gesture says everything. The paint is laid onto raw cardboard with speed and passion, so each surface feels both wild and exact.

The works are natural and unforced, and each is distinct. The color seems to give off its own light, as if it were coming from inside the painting.
