2012 "Good Painter"
This series of portraits is a personal pantheon: homage to the painters who shaped the artist's own practice, among them Joan Mitchell, Georg Baselitz, Willem de Kooning, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Peter Doig, Bjarne Melgaard, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh and Cecily Brown, ET BER,Ryszard Grzyb and Jonathan Meese
Executed in an expressionistic language of bold line, speed and nervous energy, the paintings carry the immediacy that comes from years of disciplined practice. The portraits are less likeness than encounter. They are drawn from admiration for artists who worked with freedom, mastery and boldness, who refused to compromise, and who stood up for themselves through their work.
