The world seen through screens. The series “The Second De eN A.”
I paint two realities: the physical — the body of a swimmer — and the digital — screen flickering, like distortions in water. Do both of these form the image of the world we now experience?
Water plays a huge role in our lives. We are made of 80% water. It nourishes us, cleanses us, calms us, stimulates us.
But what happens if we replace water with a screen — how do we feel?
Screen reality has become our new, true reality. We now spend 80% of our working time in front of screens.
Is this our second DNA?
Scientific studies show that even art viewed on a screen doesn’t affect or stimulate us as much as art experienced live.
There’s also an aesthetic element: the screen leaves a new and intriguing trace on our perception of reality. I use that. I play with it.
Nothing is what it seems.
