Founded by Captain Sol Kjøk in 2005, Mothership NYC is an international, interdisciplinary artist collective and residency/presentation space located in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. Marking our peer community’s 20th anniversary this fall, the Tarot-themed exhibition Pick a Card, Any Card unites 25 Mothershipper artists jointly representing 20 countries.

I'd never read tarot before. I was invited to participate in an exhibition and was supposed to choose a card, but I hesitated for so long that only one card remained: "Tower." When I read what it meant: a sudden, unexpected disaster... I was speechless. I was changing my life and refusing to participate in "dramas," and then this card appeared. I started digging deeper until I read that a disaster means the end of mediocrity, and the possibility of change. Well, that sounds completely different! That's why my TOWER is a TOWER of people, who form something like a lighthouse. They have a vision. They have an idea. They create a light in the darkness...
